Val d'Isère Ski Resort: take the height

The ski area Tignes-Val d'Isère

Linking two internationally renowned ski resorts, the Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area welcomes all winter sports lovers from December to May. Formerly called Espace Killy, the Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area is one of the most emblematic winter sports destinations in the Alps with more than 300 kilometres of slopes.

In addition, the modern and efficient lift facilities allow skiers to reach the peaks quickly, reducing waiting times. In addition, the ski area is well maintained and secure, with a network of professional mountain rescuers and patrollers.

From 1500 to 3540 meters above sea level, the area promises hours of skiing! From the blue slopes to the most committed slopes, every skier will find his happiness. For the more athletic, head to Bellevarde Face, the iconic track that hosted the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games.

Mythical off-piste

For all fans of freeride and virgin slopes, mythical off-piste waiting to be raced in Val d'Isère. In skiing, ski touring or snowboarding, these powder fields plunge you into the heart of the immensity of the mountain. Here are the mythical off-piste spots: 

  • Grands Vallons: located in the Fornet sector, Les Grands Vallons is a 1000 m altitude difference. Facing north, it ensures guaranteed snow throughout the season;
  • Cugnaï: escape to the heart of a wild valley with a breathtaking view of Mont Charvet;
  • Col Pers: for the most committed skiers in search of thrills, the spot of the Col Pers is from Pisaillas. Passing through the Parc de la Vanoise, it is a unique off-piste that requires excellent knowledge of the terrain;
  • Tour du Charvet: ideal to start off-piste skiing, it is a route to go down throughout the season;
  • Couloir de La Table: reserved for expert skiers, the Couloir de La Table offers a bird’s eye view of the valley. Steep and steep, it is a demanding route that begins at the top of the rock of Bellevarde.

Before you go off-piste, think about your safety equipment and inform yourself of the weather and avalanche risks.

What to do in Val d'Isère?

Val d'Isère is not limited to skiing. Visitors can enjoy a variety of winter and summer activities. In winter, the area offers activities such as snowboarding, ice skating, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, paragliding and much more.

How to get to Val d'Isère resort?

To reach the resort of Val d'Isère, several options are available. If you travel by car, access by road is possible via Albertville then Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Don’t forget to check the road conditions before your trip (think about your chains). Bourg-Saint-Maurice Train Station is regularly served in winter with direct connections from major cities. Then shuttles ensure the transfer to the station. Finally, if you travel by plane, buses take you to Val d'Isère from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry, Geneva and Chambéry-Savoie Mont Blanc.
