Known to be one of Europe’s best ski resorts, Val D’Isere also shares the expansive Espace (former name of the ski area) with its neighbor Tignes for over 300km of pistes, its other reputation is more for its very lively nightlife!
Val D’Isere is now a modern ski resorts with every service available but it started as a small Savoyarde farming village. The village atmosphere has remained due to the smaller hamlets of La Daille, Le Cret, La Legettaz, Le Chatelard, Le Laisinant and Le Fornet interwoven throughout the resort. There is a frequent and free navette bus service to help link all areas to the centre of Val D’Isere giving you the option to take advantage of the many restaurants and bars as well as the shops, swimming pool and sports complex, and Cinema.
Tignes - Val d'Isère Ski Area
Within this immense ski area there are beginner slopes (accessible from 7 free lifts), exciting wide blues and reds, forest skiing and the Black ‘Face de Bellevarde’. This was the run used for the men’s downhill in the 1992 Albertville Olympics and sends chills down the spine of the most hardened skiers! The Bellevarde, Solaise and Fornet/Pissailla Glacia are the three main ski areas in the Val D’Isere Valley. All areas are linked and you can even ski through all of them without having to take your skis off. Access to Tignes or the Val D’Isere snow park are both found via or in the Bellevarde ski area.
Access
At the top of the Tarentaise valley, Val d’Isere can easily be accessed by road from Bourg Saint Maurice where you’ll find the main train terminal (TGV and Eurostar). There are also many bus and taxi transfer services available for all local airports: Grenoble, Geneva, Lyon and Chambery.
To Note: The Col de l’Iseran is closed during the winter months making access from Benneval impossible.
