DESCRIPTION STATION

Situated in the heart of the French Alps, the resort of Tignes, with its various villages, is one of France's premium ski resorts.

Tignes Val Claret is situated right at the top of the Tignes Valley; you can catch the funicular from here to access the Grande Motte Glacier with skiing at 3456m.  It is also without doubt, the liveliest of all the Tignes villages with a cinema and a wide choice of bars and clubs.  There is every type of accommodation here from luxury hotels to residences and catered chalets to self-catering apartments.

The village of Tignes le Lac is beautiful lakeside resort at the heart of Tignes, with two markets per week during the season; it’s a lively, fun and welcoming resort.  It has plenty of restaurants, shops, bars and even a bowling alley, a swimming pool – Le Lagon and a sports complex.  There is also the main Tourist Office– La Maison de Tignes.

The ski resort Tignes Le Lavachet overlooks the Lac du Chevril, just 5 minutes’ walk (or 2 minutes’ free bus ride) from the heart of Tignes le Lac.  Despite being the smallest village in Tignes it still has plenty of restaurants, bars, shops including a mini-supermarket, and a lift pass office.  You’ll find the majority of the accommodation is built next to the Lavachet and Dignes pistes and there are free resort busses so you’ll have no difficulty getting around with your skis.

Ski Area

Tignes has 47 lifts giving access to around 150km of skiing, from the top of the Grande Motte Glacier (3456m!) right down to Tignes Le Brévièrs (1500m).  The beginner areas and terrain parks are interspersed with plenty of green, blue, red and black runs making Tignes an attractive ski break option for everyone.  Tignes is also part of the Espace Killy ski area, linking over to Val d’Isere for a combined 300km of pistes.  Excitement for every day you’re here!

Access

By train you can get the TGV or Eurostar to Bourg Saint Maurice and then use one of the frequent busses or indeed a taxi up to Tignes.  It’s also easy to access by car using the same road as Val d’Isere which splits off at the Dam. The nearest airports are: Chambery, Grenoble, Geneva and Lyon.
