Ski resort opening dates for winter 2016 / 2017
We can feel in the air the slow return of winter with the first snowflakes having already fallen. The Tartiflette is in the oven and our skis are serviced and ready to go. In short, WE ARE READY FOR WINTER!
There’s just one thing still holding us up, the opening of the ski resorts, and then we are good to go for the 2016-2017 winter season.
For those who just can’t wait to get a taste of this year’s snow, you can always get your ski legs back on the Galcier de Tignes from the 1st of October, and the Glacier des 2 Alpes from the 22nd of October.
The first wave opening on the 26th of November
With regard to the ski resort opening dates in the Alpes, Chamonix will be the first ski area to open its lifts from the 19th of November. Shortly followed by Val d’Isère, Val Thorens, Tignes and Montgenèvre the weekend after.
In the south, the opening date for ski resorts in the Pyrénées is also the 26th of November, with Peyragudes, Grand Tourmalet and Cauteres all opening on this day.
Opening on the 3rd of December 2016
For Les 2 Alpes, Isola 2000 and Alpe d’Huez, the beginning of the 2016 ski season will be the 3rd of December.
On the same date in the Pyrénées you can ski your first runs in Saint Lary, Font-Romeu and Bolquère.
Just a few days later, it’s the turn of Serre-Chevalier on the 7th of December and then Avoriaz on the 9th of December.
Next wave of ski resorts opening on the 10th December
Les Arcs, Chatel, Courchevel, Flaine, La Plagne, La Rosière, Les Contamines Montjoie, Les Menuires, Meribel, Risoul 1850, St Artin de Belleville, Vallandry and Vars are the 13 resorts where you’ll have the pleasure to ski from the 10th of December. You can also order all the essential ski equipment you need in advance from any of our shops.
And finally… the last wave of opening dates
To finish, the last opening date is the 17th of December 2016. In total, 17 ski areas will open on this date: Aussois, les Carroz d’Araches, Superdevoluy, Le Corbier, Le Grand Bornand, Les Gets, Morzine, Orcière, Pralognan-la-Vanoise, Sainte-Foy, Samoens, Saint François Longchamp, Valloire and Valmeinier. Not to mention Luchon in the Pyrénées and Super Besse in the Massif Central.
The opening of the 2016 ski season will be the 18th of December for Chapelle d’Abondance.
