Sestriere is probably Italy's most famous ski resort. Founded in 1934 and the venue for the 2016 Winter Olympics, it is a popular ski resort for the people of Turin and the rest of northern Italy. It is the spearhead of the Voie Lactée (Vialattea) ski area, which also includes the resorts of Claviere, Cesena, San Sicario, Sauze d'Oulx and Montgenèvre, with 400km of pistes and 900 snow cannons.
