In 1878, the mountaineer Henri Duhamel made his first ski descents on the slopes of Chamrousse and in 1929, the ski club was created. The ski resort was founded in 1950 and its very first cable car was built in 1952. During the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympic Games, the resort hosted 6 alpine skiing events and attracted more and more tourists. Recognized as the cradle of alpine skiing, Chamrousse is today an emblematic ski resort with ski slopes that have become mythical.

Nestled in the Belledonne massif, Chamrousse extends over 3 areas; Chamrousse 1650, Chamrousse 1700 and Chamrousse 1750 Roche Béranger. Linked by free shuttles, these areas benefit from a preserved and diversified natural environment. In 2017, the Chamrousse resort will be the first in Isère to receive the Green Flacon label for its many sustainable development actions.
